Bio

DEON is a South Korean born film score composer, and who has lived in Tokyo during his early years. Upon moving to Los Angeles, he was involved with assisting Hollywood productions for Golden Globe nominee composer Christopher Young (known for Spider-Man 3) on his scores such as The Monkey King (starring Donnie Yen) and on Tyler Perry’s movies; with Emmy-winning composer Velton Ray Bunch (Star Trek: Enterprise), and Annie Award nominee Austrian composer Gregor Narholz (The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie) on television and movie studios for ABC, Sony, Syfy, Lifetime, Twentieth Century Fox, Lionsgate, and China Film Group including advertisement and library music. He has scored feature films with theatrical releases and various shorts shown at international festivals worldwide.

His music often expresses drama with simplicity and lyrical melodies that are deeply emotive, introspective and passion-driven. Welcoming diversity in people and a creative palette of experimental soundscapes, he celebrates good musical storytelling that enhances a film's vision and connects with a broad audience. He often incorporates violin, piano, and cello into his scores. Lately however, he is exploring new ways of blending orchestral instruments with analog synthesizers into his compositional approach.

He earned a best music nomination at the International Fashion Film Awards (alongside singer Lana Del Rey) during the world’s largest gathering of fashion filmmakers for his music on an experimental dance film, Lilith. In 2021, he was nominated at the Hollywood Music in Media Awards (HMMA) for his original score on a mystery drama, Only Child, for which he won a Global Music Award.

Deon is a graduate of renowned Berklee College of Music (Boston, MA) and the USC Thornton Screen Scoring program (Los Angeles, CA). He is currently based in Los Angeles.
