Best Instrumental Composition -
“Daughters of Eve”

A soulful reflection on love and loss, where each note reaches toward light, even in the darkest hour.

The music serves as a meditation on grief, resilience, and the quiet power of women throughout history who have fought to protect the ones they love. It explores the universal themes of faith, identity, and sacrifice through a lens that is both deeply personal and timeless.

With each note, “Daughters of Eve” invites listeners into a space of reflection—a sonic journey into the soul of a mother, a daughter, and the enduring spirit of humanity.

“Daughters of Eve” was composed as the central theme for an AFI short film directed by Jessica Keath, then a student director at the American Film Institute. The piece is composed and performed for a minimalist trio of piano, violin, and cello, capturing the emotional gravity of a mother’s love and the spiritual reckoning that comes in moments of profound crisis.

Composed and performed on piano and violin by Deon Lee, with cello performed by GRAMMY®-nominated cellist Tina Guo. It was recorded and mixed by Shinnosuke Miyazawa, and mastered by GRAMMY® Award-winning engineer Bill Hare.
